I am on a roll, explaining how to use software other than Escape Online 5, but that is the beauty of integrated Windows applications. You can merge data from one application with another. So, don't stop me now. I am going to explain how to create mail merges in Microsoft Word. Now why would I do such a thing if I am the Technical Writer for Escape Online 5? Because there is a set of steps that are so simple that it seems like we shouldn't keep them to ourselves, we should let everyone know that they can use the data from Escape Online (like employee and vendor information) to create custom EMAILS!!! |
So we created this presentation to walk you through the process of exporting information from Escape Online 5 to Microsoft Excel, and then merging it with documents created in Microsoft Word that can be emailed. Please let us know if this is a useful tool, and we will create a video tutorial that you can launch from within Escape Online 5. * Having trouble reading the PowerPoint? Now that the beta period for our .Net 3.5 based system has been successfully completed, we have removed the 3.5 Beta Page from the Online 5 dropdown here at www.escapetech.com. Thank you to everyone for their assistance launching the latest version!

Many times companies make announcements the same day good news occurs. Our great news is a month old. And just what is that news? Six districts in Alameda county went live on version 3.9.6 one month ago today. That’s right, our .Net 3.5 platform software has been live for one month now!
Those six districts included two that were already live on Online 5, and four that converted from Escape Classic.
The project was co-managed by Maureen Fitzgerald, Director of Fiscal Implementation for ACOE, and Gayle Lucas and Kathy Carlson, both Project Managers from Escape. Working with Maureen’s team in FIT and the team at Escape, the project progressed steadily with system set up, acceptance testing, training and went live as originally scheduled in early October. The collaboration between ACOE and Escape was outstanding and contributed to the overall success of the implementation.
Maureen indicated they have seen definite performance improvements at the districts and ACOE county operations. Additionally, they have been able to take immediate advantage of inherent 3.5 features like exporting a report to excel as data only, quick links and quick starts.
Maureen also reported that there was not a single issue that has come up related to the .Net 3.5 based software.
We congratulate all our new users and especially the ACOE FIT group for a job well done. You helped us prove the .Net 3.5 based system is ready for production work.

For the past couple of weeks I have been going on and on about all the excellent resources Escape Online brings provides, but I haven’t mentioned our most precious and important resource: Team Escape. Now I may be biased like a proud sibling, but we have the best support team ever. So for this Friday Feature I am going to go beyond our software and give you a tip on how you can better communicate with our top notch support team. In this case, I am talking about Microsoft Outlook and its ability to deliver emails in an HTML format. |

Now, you may be asking yourself why would you want to do this? The answer lies in formatting and pasting images. When you deliver a message in HTML, you can highlight and bold your questions or issues right in the email. You can also paste graphics in the email instead of attaching them. It also allows your ECC representative to answer your questions inline. See how Robin answers the customers questions by her response in red:

Sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done. If only there was some way to condense all of the information I need into a ten minute sound bite. Well, there is. Introduced last release and coming back for more is Terri and Leslie’s Top 10. This irreverent video peeks at the top 10 features (kind of) of the latest release and tells you all about them in about 10 minutes (kind of). It is not a replacement for the Release Review which provides a detailed look at the new features and lasts an hour, but it is a fun way to get the information you need when time is in short supply. Or, as a refresher!! |
The Top 10 is now available for your viewing and listening pleasure. You can take a quick listen, and you can sign up for the Release Review which is next Thursday, October 22 at 9am.

The last Friday Feature talked about how we want to hear from you, and how we are using different tools to get feedback, but I forgot to mention one of those tools: rating knowledge base articles. So here it is! We introduced this feature a couple of months ago, but you may have not heard of it. As of today, only nine articles have been rated. It is really easy to rate an article, and you can leave comments too. Check it out. Here is a KB article about approving requisitions. Two users found it helpful (just a click is all it takes). They also could have left comments, but did not. |

But, what if they found it NOT HELPFUL? What happens then? Well, our knowledge base is set up to send an email to me if someone rates an article poorly. If that occurs, I will try to rewrite the article to be more helpful. Hopefully, the reader leaves a comment to guide my changes, but if not, I will query Escape Customer Care for ideas to improve the clarity and readability.
As many of you know, customers regularly send suggestions for bettering the documentation. I try my best to address them in a timely manner. The KB is no exception. If you have comments, please take advantage. We are listening.

Just thought we would let you know that the Performance Task Force is still regularly reviewing report statistics. We know people don’t really want to see a ton of facts on this anymore, but a high level overview may be interesting.

Today is the first day in our new offices. This is so exciting!! We are all unpacking our boxes and settling into our new areas. Moving is never fun, but this has gone quite smoothly and everybody is thrilled about the nicer digs and the larger workspaces. We were somewhat cramped for space in our old office, with people having to spend extra time and energy to coordinate the access of private space for phone conferences, webinars, and customer meetings.
Our new space affords us TWO team meeting rooms, a conference room and another room for meetings that are less formal. Plus, those of us in cubes, including yours truly, will be styling in our larger work areas with more room for collaboration and research projects. Ramona, Bob, Chad, Bill, Jen, Mike and Dayna all have hard walls for their offices now (some had modular walls before). This will afford them a quiet location for working with customers and employees.

The unpacking has begun! Jen in her new office.

Ramona has new furniture and a beautiful view.
